Jonah (God’s Reluctant Prophet)
by-Mary Ann Bishop
Most Old Testament prophets spoke to God’s people warning of impending judgment and the need for repentance. The prophet Jonah is different. Because his initial response to God’s assignment was rebellion, the record of his ministry is an intensely personal story of his struggle to obey God and accept His mercy toward Israel’s most despised enemy. Jonah’s struggle is our struggle. May those who remain “Reluctant” to God’s open door move into a deeper “Reliance” upon the God whose will it is that none perish, but that all might have eternal life.
